Fishing Report from Panama and Tropic Star Lodge

Fishing Report - Aug. 27 to Sept. 3, 2011

Marlin

Tropic Star Lodge

The bite continues to be good on the 100 fathom curve. The weather did not corporate with us as well; we saw a few of overcast days and heavy afternoon showers but, as you know, we cannot control the weather. Crews were having some trouble catching bonitos but there were plenty of Skipjack Tunas on the ledge. These big baits are a favorite out here and the bites, if you are lucky enough to see one, are spectacular. Both the Black Marlin and Blue Marlin love them.

James Doerr released the biggest Marlin this week, was a BLACK MARLIN estimated at 750+lbs. Steve Thomas released his first BLACK MARLIN around 400 lbs and a PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN around 450 lbs to complete his ROYAL SLAM. Kathryn Musial, only 11 years old, released her first BLACK MARLIN that went 400 lbs. Keith Reid also scored well with his first BLACK MARLIN around 400 lbs and Jonathan Kopp released his first BLACK MARLIN estimated at 400 lbs. Jonathan also released his first BLACK MARLIN estimated at 400 lbs.

100th Marlin Milestone at Tropic Star Lodge Tropic Star`s very own stand-up tackle Marlin angler, Yvonne Buckley, along with her trainer, coach, photographer and husband, Richard Buckley, just reached a milestone achievement that would be envied by serious anglers anywhere in the world. One hundred marlin on stand up tackle is no longer a lonely number when it comes to Yvonne and her tenacity for billfishing at TSL. Congratulations Yvonne.

Keshin Harrison put a live bonito down just outside the Reef in his captain?s Secret Spot and caught a MONSTER BROOMTAIL GROUPER that weighed in an incredible 62 lbs. The massive fish is now a pending IGFA 50lb test Record and Junior Record as well. Congrats Keshin on a job well done. William Hart released his first his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 350 lbs. Ryan Rommel also scored his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN that went around 350 lbs and Brett Martin also released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 350 lbs.

Tight Lines!
