September has once again proven to be a great month for Marlin fishing at Pias Bay. Although we have been experiencing more than average rainfall, the crews still managed to get our guests on the action. It?s been difficult at times to find bonito (our favorite marlin bait) but there are lots of Skipjack Tunas out on the 100 fathom curve. It takes some extra skill to get a good hookup on these 8-15 lb livies but as you know, our crews are some of the absolute best in the world. There are also good numbers 60-100 lb Yellowfin Tuna patrolling the drop-off and some guests did manage to get into the great action. Guy Harvey was also here this week filming his latest billfish documentary. His buddy Pat Ford, who I might add is an outstanding photographer, took some fantastic shots of Black and Blue Marlin as well as Yellowfin Tunas and huge Dorado.
Jorge Ferreiro released his first BLACK MARLIN estimated at 500 lbs and PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN that went around 350 lbs. Chris Godshall released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 500 lbs. Matt Luebe also scored his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN around 450 lbs. Robert Douglas and Peter Binney both released their first BLACK MARLIN, both in the 350 lb range and Jake Binney also released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 275 lbs. Peter completed his ROYAL SLAM this week.
Cory Brennan released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 375 lbs and first PACIFIC SAILFISH around 100 lbs. Jeff Brite nailed his first BLACK MARLIN around 300 lbs and Francisco Ordoez released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN, 300 lbs. Mark Gargulio released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 350 lbs.
