March has historically been one of the better months to catch Black Marlin off the famed Pinas Reef, however the climate change this season has made it very difficult for us; the water temperatures are in the mid to high 70?s and although we are seeing many tailing fish they just don?t seem to want to bite the live bonitos. Some sailfish were caught while trolling plastics and the tunas have been showing up in the south along the coast. Inshore is also a bit challenging but our crews are working coast and have produces some huge Roosterfish and big Cuberas. There?s also lots of groupers and African Pompanos along the rocks.
Mona Phillips released her bucket list Black Marlin estimated at 350 lbs. Peter Baio also released his first Black Marlin, a big one that went 500 lbs. Kenneth Kassin also released his first Black Marlin estimated at 500 lbs and got his first Pacific Sailfish. Mel Leavitt released his first Black Marlin 400 lbs and Thomas Gross released his first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 350 lbs.
Doug Anderson got a shot at his first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 350 lbs and got the release. Larry Gabel released both his first Striped Marlin estimated at 180 lbs and also released his first Pacific Sailfish that went 110 lbs. Glen Brooks also released his first Striped Marlin estimated at 200 lbs. John Dunn released his first Pacific Sailfish around 130 lbs, Mike Wilcox released his first Pacific Sailfish, 120 lbs and Serge Cote also released his first Pacific Sailfish around 100 lbs. Some other catches of note were by John Harvey who released a huge Roosterfish estimated at 65 lbs and Michael Primeau caught a Yellowfin Tuna that weighed 110 lbs.
