Yes, this is very true! I am pretty sure I remember FFChineseman stating he was pretty new in another thread, so my suggestion is particularly pointed toward beginners. But by all means, expand your boundaries . . . . under favorable conditions. I would think one would want to give a new stream a fair shot and fish it during favorable conditions. "Grind" the local streams that you know you are going to continue fishing.
